For the last 20 years, Ann Arbor Township has participated in a highly successful program which has protected nearly 1,300 acres of land. This land will stay green forever, and never be developed or contribute to urban sprawl.
This fall, the program is up for renewal with no tax increase from current levels. With its continuation, hundreds of additional acres will be protected in Ann Arbor Township forever, providing us with critical public benefits.
Conserving land protects Ann Arbor Township’s water, watersheds, wetlands and forests and helps mitigate climate impacts.
Renewing means ensuring we protect the natural beauty of the township to be enjoyed for generations.
Voting yes means keeping land affordable for small, organic, family farmers and supporting Ann Arbor’s local farm economy.
Limiting development prevents traffic congestion, keeping our community bikeable and walkable and our taxes lower.
A renewal of Ann Arbor Township’s current Land Preservation Millage — not a tax increase.
In 2003, Ann Arbor Township residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of raising funds for the permanent preservation of farmland and open space in the township. This program expired in 2023, and is now up for a 5-year renewal.
Every dollar that Ann Arbor Township taxpayers provide towards the program is leveraged 2 to 3 times by other local, state, and federal land preservation programs.
